Un peu de Géo

The World Cup gave me the opportunity to review countries the children already knew and learn some new ones. Here's what we did.

Working in groups, with one scribe, the children wrote down on a mini-board as many of the 32 World Cup countries they could remember in English before taking it in turns to feed back to the class. Next, we revisited the countries we knew before going on to do lots of listening, speaking and reading practice to learn some more.

Next, we had a brief discussion about the continents before playing some games to practise how to say these in French. Still working in groups at tables, the children then categorised the countries we had learned into their appropriate continent. We then used this page and this page to play some interactive games to reinforce this knowledge.

Next, I introduced the "Où se trouve ... " question and answer, demonstrating both long and short answers. As a class, the children then asked the question with a country word card as a prompt, with a volunteer answering. If the volunteer gave a 'short' answer, I asked if anyone could extend it to a full sentence. Each child was then given a country word card and they then moved around the class playing Quiz, Quiz,Trade.

As a final task, they made 4 or 8 flap mini-books with the question on the outside and the answer -short or long - below.
