J'aime les crêpes!

Since we've been taking about which school subjects we like as well as hobbies, Mardi Gras seemed like a great opportunity to re-visit the topic but this time talking about pancake toppings. We played Corners and Heads Down Thumbs Up to learn the new language and followed this with rôle-plays with a partner. I searched high and low for a simple 'pancake song' but found nothing:-(  Then I had a eureka moment - rewrite a song I'd already used. The one that fitted the bill - simple tune, repetition and short lines - was Charlotte Diamond's 'Je suis une Pizza' which became 'J'aime les crêpes.' You can find my words here. Couldn't find a word-free version of the song, so sang from memory 'sans music' with the children echoing. We sang in different voices, with different people leading and would have set groups the task of writing another verse if we'd had time.

Can't seem to end any topic these days without making the obligatory mini-book. We used the accordion fold format found here, using 2 strips cut from A4 which were glued together, cut them into pancake shaped-pages and wrote about our favourite flavours. Might not have had 'actual' pancakes but fun was had by all, ticking the listening, speaking, reading and writing boxes to boot :-) More lovely examples from a mixed Y4/5 class:
